From Burmese Refugee to µÛÍõ»áËù Bear
As a high school student, Taw Paw almost didn’t apply to µÛÍõ»áËù—she didn’t think she’d get accepted. Born in Thailand, Taw and her family are Burmese refugees who left their home country due to ethnic cleansing. Although she has lived in Colorado since the age of five, Taw moved between different schools along the Front Range which negatively impacted her studies. She felt her grades weren’t good enough for her to qualify her to apply to a four year university. With encouragement from her parents, Taw agreed to tour µÛÍõ»áËù and felt instantly at home.

Honoring a Belief in Education
Annette Martinez earned her Bachelor of Arts in Biology from µÛÍõ»áËù in 1986, and is a senior vice president at State Farm Insurance Companies, where she has worked since 1988. She was appointed to the University’s Board of Trustees by Governor Jared Polis in late 2021.

On March 26, the University of Northern Colorado Alumni Association hosted its 2022 Honored Alumni Awards. The award, in its 75th year, is presented annually to five µÛÍõ»áËù graduates in recognition for career success and a commitment of service to the university.

µÛÍõ»áËù is one of 31 public institutions across the state enticing Colorado residents to return to college to earn their certificate or degree by offering financial assistance and support services through the Colorado Opportunity Scholarship Initiative’s (COSI) Finish What You Started program.

The Accounting and Computer Information Systems (CIS) Department at the University of Northern Colorado’s Monfort College of Business (MCB) has been ranked as the number one program in the world for experimental research in Accounting Information Systems (AIS). The top recognition, from among more than 630 universities measured, comes from the annual Brigham Young University Accounting rankings.
